Thanet worst for child poverty in Kent

According to recent figures the child poverty level for Thanet was the highest in Kent during 2011.

The report in yourcanterbury.co.uk says that the study defined poverty as being £12 or less per family member per day. Newington and Margate central having the highest levels of child poverty in all of Kent.

Overall 25% (or 1 in 4) children in Thanet came from families living under such conditions.

Based on the figures given in the Your Canterbury report here are the top three poorest and richest parts of Kent.

Top 3 poorest areas of Kent

1. Thanet (25% of children in poverty)
2. Swale (22% of children in poverty)
=3 Medway, Shepway, Dover & Gravesham (19% of children in poverty)

Top 3 richest areas of Kent

=1 Sevenoaks (11% of children in poverty)
=1 Tonbridge and Malling (11% of children in poverty)
=1 Tunbridge Wells (11% of children in poverty)
